After hours answering service

The office closed at five. The emergencies didn't.

Bloombilt picks up nights, weekends, and holidays. It takes the details, books the job onto your calendar, escalates a real emergency to whoever is on call, and texts back the people who hang up. You read the whole thing over coffee.

Live now at Norblom Plumbing, a St. Paul shop that's taken Twin Cities calls for about a hundred years.

Nights are where the urgent work is.

Daytime calls can wait an hour. After-hours calls usually can't, which is exactly why they are worth more. Nobody rings a contractor at eleven at night to ask about a quote. They ring because something broke and it is getting worse, and they will keep dialling until a voice answers.

That is the whole problem with a voicemail box. It does not lose you a call, it loses you the call that was going to be a job, on the night when whoever picked up got to charge for it. By the time you hear the message in the morning, somebody else has been out and back.

What comes in after five.

Plumbing shops →
A supply line lets go at eleven at night. Nobody calls a plumber at eleven at night unless it cannot wait until morning.
HVAC companies →
No heat at 4am in January is not a next-business-day problem, and the caller already knows it.
Electrical shops →
Half a panel drops on a Sunday. They will work through every electrician in the county before they sit in the dark.
Roofing companies →
A storm comes through at dusk and the water is coming in tonight, not on Monday.
Lawn care and landscaping crews →
Snow starts at 2am, and everyone without a plow contract wants one before sunrise.
Tire and auto repair shops →
A blowout at nine at night is somebody stranded on a shoulder, deciding who to call.

What it does while you sleep.

  • Answers every call, text, and website chat once the office is shut
  • Books the job straight onto your calendar
  • Texts back the callers who hang up before they reach you
  • Escalates a genuine emergency to whoever is on call
  • Sends the whole conversation to your inbox, transcribed, before morning

An answering service that only takes a message hands you the same problem in the morning. This one books the appointment while the caller is still on the phone, so the night shift produces work on the calendar instead of a list of people to ring back.

Or just leave it on.

A 24/7 answering service usually costs more than a nights-and-weekends one, because a staffed call center has to pay somebody to sit through the quiet hours. This doesn't, so it doesn't. Most shops end up pointing every unanswered call at it, day and night, and let it catch the daytime overflow too.

It is the same system either way. The only decision is which hours you route to it. If you have been pricing an after-hours virtual receptionist, this is the same job under the other name.

Running live

Norblom Plumbing has answered the Twin Cities' calls for about a hundred years. Now Bloombilt answers the ones the team can't get to, so a call that comes in while everyone's on a job still lands as a lead instead of a voicemail nobody left.

Common questions.

What counts as after hours?

Whatever you say it is. We set the hours during onboarding, so it can pick up from 5pm, from the moment nobody answers, or only on weekends and holidays. Most shops point their unanswered calls at it around the clock and let it catch the overflow during the day too.

Is this a 24/7 answering service or only nights?

Both, and it is the same system either way. It does not sleep, take breaks, or go home, so covering 24/7 costs the same as covering nights and weekends. You decide which hours route to it.

What happens if the call is a real emergency?

It asks enough to tell the difference, then escalates to whoever is on call by text or phone, with the name, the number, the address, and what is going on. The person you wake up already has the story instead of a voicemail to return blind.

Is it a person or is it AI?

It is AI, and it says so. It tells callers it is an automated assistant rather than pretending to be a person, asks what they need, and writes it down. We think that is the honest version, and callers get further with it than they do with a voicemail box.

Do I have to change my phone number or provider?

No. It runs on top of the phone system you already have. During onboarding we point your unanswered calls at the AI, so it catches the overflow and the after-hours calls instead of letting them roll to voicemail. Your number, your phones, and your provider stay exactly as they are.

How much does it cost?

Every deployment is custom-quoted, because every shop runs differently. We build the front desk around your hours, your services, and your service area, then give you one flat monthly price. No per-call fees, and no premium for the hours nobody wants to work.

Is this an answering service or a virtual receptionist?

Both words describe the same job, and different shops use different ones. An answering service traditionally takes a message; a virtual receptionist is expected to act like your front desk, which means answering questions and booking the work. Ours does the second: it answers, tells the caller what you do and when you can come, books the appointment, and sends you the transcript. Call it whichever you like.

How long until I'm using it?

Most customers are live in two to three weeks from signed agreement.

Will this work with the tools we already use?

Yes. Our products connect to the systems your team already uses: Google Workspace, CRMs, calendars, Slack, email, and other common business tools.

What if I want to cancel?

Cancel anytime with reasonable notice. We'll export your data and hand back anything we run for you, like a website or phone number. The rest stays yours.

Where does our data live?

Your data stays yours. It's encrypted in transit and at rest, isolated from every other customer, and never used to train AI models, ours or the third-party services we use to deliver the product. Subprocessor list available on request. Full details in our privacy policy.
