The best AI answering service for electricians, compared honestly (2026)

What an answering service has to get right for an electrical contractor, seven options compared on price and booking, and a plain answer on which to pick, including when it isn't ours.

Disclosure up front: Bloombilt makes one of the products compared below. We wrote it anyway because most roundups in this category rank their own product first and skip the parts where the competition is better. We’ll point those out.

Electrical has a call mix that breaks generic answering services. Half the phone is routine work you would love to book: panel upgrades, EV charger installs, recessed lighting, an inspection punch list. The other half is somebody with no power to half the house at 7pm, or worse, a smell of burning and a question about whether they should be in the building.

An answering service that treats those the same is a liability. That is the specific thing to test.

What to demand from any of these

  • It knows the difference between a quote request and an emergency. “My breaker keeps tripping” and “I smell something burning from the panel” cannot get the same response. Ask every vendor how their agent decides, and then call the demo and say the scary sentence yourself.
  • It never guesses at code or price. An agent that improvises an answer about whether you need a permit, or what a panel swap runs, costs more in trust than the missed call did. The correct answer is always a scheduled visit.
  • It books, it doesn’t just take a message. Your voicemail already takes messages. The bar is: caller gets offered times, picks one, gets a confirmation text before they hang up.
  • Real answers about your business. Test it on your own facts. Do you do service work or new construction only. Do you carry the brand of panel they have. What’s your minimum. What area do you cover.
  • After-hours parity. Evening and weekend calls are the ones that turn into emergency-rate work or go to your competitor. Confirm behavior at 9pm is identical, and confirm what it costs when it happens.

Plain recommendations

Already paying for Jobber or Housecall Pro? Use the one you already own. Jobber’s AI Receptionist is $29/mo as an add-on, and Housecall Pro sells theirs similarly. A native feature that writes straight into your existing dispatch board is a strong default and it is cheap. Stress-test the emergency handling before you trust it with a 10pm call, but try it first.

Commercial and new-construction heavy, with a real office? You may not need any of this. If someone answers every call during business hours and your after-hours volume is genuinely low, a missed-call text-back on your existing line solves most of it for very little.

Residential service, solo or small crew? This is the sweet spot for AI answering. Your calls come in while you are in an attic or on a ladder and cannot get to the phone, and they are worth a few hundred to a few thousand each.

Smallest possible spend? Goodcall at $79/mo per agent, set up yourself from your Google Business Profile. It knows what your Google listing knows. That is enough to catch a name and number and not enough to answer whether you service their panel brand. For a lot of one-truck shops, catching the name and number is the whole win.

Callers who need a human voice? Smith.ai or Ruby. Real people, priced accordingly. If your work skews toward older homeowners or property managers who will hang up on anything automated, this is the honest answer and it is not us.

Where Bloombilt fits. We build the front desk from your own website before you pay anything, so it already knows your service area, what you do and don’t take on, and your FAQ the first time you call it. It books onto your calendar, texts back the hang-ups, escalates anything that sounds like a hazard to your on-call phone, and it will not quote a price you did not approve. We quote per shop against your real call volume instead of publishing a tier. We are also local to the Twin Cities and we run the front desk for a Minnesota plumbing company today.

The tradeoff, stated plainly: we are a small, young company. You get founders who answer and a product that improves weekly, not a big vendor’s certification program and account managers.

Settle it with one phone call

Every vendor here sounds the same in a feature table. They stop sounding the same the moment you call the demo and describe a burning smell. Do that before you sign with anyone, us included.
